I take a holistic approach to the treatment and management of disease. I aim to correct the underlying cause of your condition using a combination of scientifically validated therapeutics in conjunction with a traditional Naturopathic framework to understand and restore your health and vitality.
What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a system of medicine based around the principle ÃÂThe Healing Power of NatureÃÂ (Vis Medicatrix Naturae). Natural therapies are mentioned in some of the first known written records and have been employed by every known culture to assist in the treatment and management of disease.
Today the modern practice of Naturopathy is a distinct science of its own that encompasses herbal medicine, nutritional medicine, diet and lifestyle advice.
Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine or phytotherapy is based upon the practice of prescribing plants or plant extracts for various health complaints. Herbs are chemically complex and are often blended with other herbs to create individual synergistic formulations specific to each patients needs. These formulations are designed to have a multifaceted therapeutic effect within the body.
Herbal Medicines can be prepared and administered in various ways, some of the more common ways are:
ÃÂ Infusions ÃÂ are in essence herbal teas, where leaves, flowers or other parts of the plant are steeped in hot water and consumed
ÃÂ Liquid extracts ÃÂ are a mixture of herb, alcohol and water at a particular ratio for each individual herb to specifically extract known active compounds
ÃÂ Tablets/capsules- are dried preparations of herbs made into tablet or capsule form, these may contain one or many herbal combinations
Herbs can be consumed internally, as gargles and applied externally as creams or ointments.
Nutritional Medicine
Nutrition can simply be described as the process of nourishing or being nourished. Food provides both the energy and nutrients needed to build and maintain all body cells. Many individuals often overlook the important role food plays in maintaining their health and in the prevention of disease. Many nutrients are termed essential, meaning they have to be obtained from the diet. For normal maintenance optimal levels of nutrients must be consistently consumed.
The introduction of modern food processing has changed the way the vast majority of people consume foods. Our once fresh, wholesome and unrefined foods have been replaced with fruit and vegetables sprayed with pesticides, picked unripe, transported for a long duration and kept in cold storage for prolonged periods of time. Often preservatives, flavours and colours have been added to extend the shelf life of products. These chemicals offer no nutritional benefit and can potentially be detrimental to oneÃÂs health.
Flower essences
Australian Bush Flower Essences used to help people manage and overcome emotional issues. Australian Aboriginals and ancient Egyptians have always used flowers to heal emotions. A combination or single essence is taken under the tongue.
Who can benefit from naturopathy?
Just about anyone can benefit from naturopathy. Naturopathy can be used for acute and chronic health conditions concomitantly with other healing modalities or as a stand alone treatment.
In fact you do not need to be sick at all to benefit from Naturopathy. A key aspect of Naturopathy includes prevention. All aspects of nutrition and lifestyle will be addressed d recommendations will be made on an individual approach for each patient.
